Three Gorges Dam
Visited Three Gorges Dam yesterday, second longest dam in the world (2.3kms long) but biggest power producer in world. When first finished 5 years ago provided 10% China's power needs but now only 1.7% because of increased demand. Was a bit smoggy yesterday so some pics not that clear. There are five ship locks beside dam to take boats past it and each one are 200meters long and rise 22 meters. Our ship is 100meters long and weighs 5,200 tonnes. We went thru last night and it took 3 hours to go thru all 5 locks. Pics I will post are at night with no flash so hope you can get idea. 4 boat at a time in locks when we went up.
